A Warrior On & Off The Field.

Matthew Perry Kull was a graduate of Yorktown High School and a Lacrosse All-American. Recruited by Tarheel Lacrosse at UNC Chapel Hill, he became a defensive starter and a dean’s list scholar as a freshman. He was an outstanding individual and dedicated athlete. His love for life and all it’s challenges was evident in his cheerful demeanor and commitment to success. Anyone who observed his lifestyle was left with the impression that he would never fail, he could never fail. When he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease in March 1999. There was never a doubt that he would survive. There was chemotherapy and radiation- the hope for remission. By October 1999, there was more chemo, and discouragement beyond reason. Coping with fear, weakness and tears, Matthew looked for purpose in each experience and encouraged all of us to do the same. Twice near death, his doctors were amazed with his focus on life, his faith in God, and his ability to endure with love and trust in his heart. With recovery just out of reach, Matt died suddenly on January 21st 2000. His passion for life was never sacrificed, nor his strength of character. Matthew never gave up.

Matthew’s Mission

We are a foundation dedicated to providing the emotional and physical support desperately needed for the healing process of young lymphoma patients.

There is no cure for Lymphoma, only the potential for remission. It is a disease that lasts a lifetime.

LOVE AND ENCOURAGEMENT

Love and encouragement are crucial elements in the success of treatments.

OBSTACLES AND FEARS

Please consider the many obstacles and fears faced by young lymphoma patients and their families. There are few facilities or funds available to accommodate and supplement their essential needs.

STRENGTH OF UNITY

Family members need the strength of unity during the trials related to this devastating illness. Trust and conditional love are as important as clinical treatment. A family without the continual encouragement of one to another is quick to lose hope, and motivation is crucial to healing.

Testimonials

Everyone connected with the Maryland Lacrosse program joined me in expressing our thoughts and prayers over Matts passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family this most difficult time.

Dick Edell

University of Maryland

I know that nothing can comfort parents in the face of such loss, but you can take some consolation from the kind of young man that Matt was. He was one of the finest young persons that I have bet in thirty four years of teaching in UNC.

Roger W. Lotchin

Uiniversity of North Carolina

His determination to not only excel personally, but to push the entire team to new heights really made me appreciate what he brought to the field each and every day. I have yet to meet another player with Matt’s intensity and drive on the field.
